EYECAN is seeking a Sight Support Assistant for the visually impaired to work as part of the Community Team who provide a professional specialist response to support and enable users with sight impairment to maintain and develop independence.
The role involves assisting our Rehabilitation Officer for the Visually Impaired and Sight Support Officer manage a portfolio of clients
The successful candidate will possess:
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (desirable);
- Effective planning and organisational skills;
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities;
- Experience in working in a Healthcare environment; and
- Be computer literate in Microsoft and have an up to date working knowledge of and keen interest in IT

Sight Support Assistant
REPORTING TO:
Operations Director
JOB PURPOSE:
- To assist by following planned individually tailored rehabilitation programmes and training in conjunction with clients, and other service providers where appropriate under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Officer Visually Impaired (ROVI) and Sight Support Officer (SSO)
- To assist ROVI and Sight Support Officer manage a portfolio of clients, providing continuing assessment of needs as required, and at key transition points
- To assist in teaching a range of skills and provide advice that addresses safety and independence issues in relation to; communication skills and daily living skills
- To support clients in the use of adaptations and equipment. Installing equipment, and providing training where necessary
- Support charity in giving presentations and demonstrations for the purpose of raising awareness amongst statutory and voluntary organisations, educational establishments, colleagues and the general public of rehabilitation work and issues around sight impairment
- To assist in providing advice and support to partner services, working to build stronger relationships with all third parties involved in the support of sight impaired Islanders
- Undertake certificated training and maintain knowledge in sight support IT equipment and software and to provide one to one training and support to clients
- To maintain accurate records in accordance with GDPR requirements and complete periodic reviews
- To keep own professional knowledge up to date; sharing this knowledge and supporting the development of the team and the Society as a whole
- To signpost service users and interested parties to other relevant services, and organisations
- To respond to telephone and email enquiries, and providing information in a prompt and effective manner
- To undertake specific projects which relate to the aims and priorities of EYECAN as instructed

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is desirable
- Experience working in a Health or Care environment
- Have a keen interest in IT and how this develops to enabling the support to our members
- Full valid Jersey driving license

- Some knowledge in the field of sight impairment, assistive aids and technology would be desirable, however, training will be provided
