Every year, on January 4th, we celebrate World Braille Day to honour Louis Braille, who invented the Braille system at the age of just 14 years old. This tactile writing system, made up of patterns of raised dots, has revolutionized communication for blind and visually impaired individuals.
World Braille Day highlights the importance of accessibility and equal opportunities for people with visual impairments. It’s a reminder to ensure that everyone has access to written information and can fully participate in society.
Our Rehabilitation Officer, Chris Frost, spoke to BBC Radio Jersey on World Braille Day, to provide more information on this invention, you can listen here: Saturday breakfast on BBC Radio Jersey – With Laura Price (04/01/2025) – BBC Sounds (scroll to 1 hr 37 mins).
