EYECAN, is proud to be able to continue its Children’s Spectacle Voucher Scheme – funding up to £150 towards the cost of a pair of prescription glasses for children under 12 years old.
Why It Matters: A child’s brain learns to see just as it learns to walk or talk. Early detection and treatment of vision problems give the best chance to correct issues and prevent lifelong sight difficulties.
At EYECAN, we want children to have access to the care they need—without financial barriers.
Since 2021, EYECAN has funded the Children’s Spectacle Voucher and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, thanks to a generous legacy donation in memory of Edith Margot Baumgarten.
EYECAN, believes all children should be able to develop their abilities and interests without experiencing the frustrations of poor sight.

Children’s Spectacle Voucher Scheme
Helping young eyes see a brighter future
Established by EYECAN in 2021, the charity continues funding the Children’s Spectacle Voucher Scheme, thanks to a generous legacy donation in memory of Edith Margot Baumgarten.
Edith, born in Berlin in 1912, escaped Nazi Germany in 1938, tragically losing her family in the Holocaust. As a refugee in New York and Santiago de Chile, she faced many hardships, including raising her son Edward, who had severe health and learning difficulties. Edith also lived with sight loss which limited her once-active lifestyle. Edith remained spirited and committed to helping others, living by the Jewish principle of Tikkun Olam, the obligation to improve the world.
Her legacy now helps children access the spectacles they need. We hope this tribute to Edith’s life and values inspires others to leave a legacy that can change lives for generations.
