June Round up

  • 140th anniversary:  We had an incredible week celebrating 140th anniversary!  Formerly known as the Jersey Blind Society, we have been supporting islanders with sight loss since 1886, and we would love to thank everyone who helped us celebrate this incredible milestone.

  • Duchess of Edinburgh Visit: It was an honour to host Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Edinburgh, at EYECAN’s Westlea Centre in celebration of our 140th Anniversary. What a special moment it was and it was lovely to meet Her Royal Highness, and to invite The Duchess up to Westlea, to showcase EYECAN and all the support offered to islanders with sight loss. Our brilliant clients, volunteers, partners, families, Management Committee, and the EYECAN team had a fantastic day.  A huge thank you to everyone involved in making such a special day. Photos are available on our website.

  • Dave Steele: It was also a pleasure to host Dave Steele, also known as “The Blind Poet”. Together we hosted a poetry workshop with ArtHouse Jersey, visited two schools, and spent the morning in the library, where Dave spoke about his experience with sight loss and shared his children’s stories about a young boy living with sight loss.

  • Rifle Club: We were recently welcomed up to the Western Miniature Rifle Club, who have received some very exciting new equipment. We’re really excited to share more about this with you soon. Watch this space…

  • RJA&HS Cake Sale: We want to give a big thank you to RJA&HS for choosing EYECAN as their charity of choice to receive the funds from their Summer Fair Cake Sale, which raised an incredible £1247!  Thank you everyone who attended and came to say hello at our stall, and to everyone who bought a cake.

  • 300 Club Winners: Congratulations to the winners of June’s 300 club draw. 1st Prize of £150 – No. 135, 2nd Prize of £75 – No. 94, 3rd Prize of £50 – No. 23. (Winners have been contacted).

  • Apologies for Club Cancellations: Due to the heatwave, we unfortunately had to cancel a few of our clubs in June.  We’re sorry for those affected, and we hope that you were all able to stay cool and hydrated.

  • Volunteers needed for Macular Society: The Macular Society, run by our committee member Julie, are looking for a volunteer to support their once monthly meetings, which are held at our Westlea Centre. If you or someone you know are interested in helping out, please get intouch.

Donations

Donations are vital to EYECAN’s ongoing ability to support islanders living with sight loss. Continued demand for our services and the rising cost of delivery means that sustainable fundraising is essential.

Every contribution helps us maintain and grow the free or low‑cost services that we provide to those who need them most. All donations stay on the island, directly benefiting our local community and enabling EYECAN to make a meaningful impact.

Thank you for your support. Please head over to our Donations page for donation options.
